Back to Dormillouse
One century ago, many inhabitants of the village of Dormillouse, right in the heart of the Massif des Écrins, harrassed by poverty, emigrated to Algeria.
While Dormillouse counted 180 inhabitants in the XIXth century, three successive group departures (in 1881, 1890 and 1921) depleted the population of Dormillouse and the other hamlets of the Valley of Freissinieres. The last of these collective exiles took place in 1921, hundred years ago.
This centenary will be celebrated on saturday, July 31st and sunday, August 1st.. All the present and former inhabitants of Dormillouse and freissinières, together with descendants and friends, are invited to join and link with their ancestors memory and to share in the extraordinary history of the village and families that used Eto lve there.
